Emmeline Pankhurst was born in Manchester, England. She led the fight for women's voting rights in
Britain. She also formed the Women's Franchise League in 1889 with the help of her husband. The National Women's Social and Political Union, with the slogan "Votes for Women" was formed by her in 1903. The followers of Mrs. Pankhurst staged parades and engaged in breaking windows to gain attention. The followers included her daughters Christabel and Sylvia. During World War I, Mrs. Pankhurst and her followers turned to patriotic work. The year Mrs. Pankhurst died, women received equal voting privileges.
