The Great War Society was founded by a group of researchers at the
Hoover Institution of War, Peace and Revolution. We subscribe to the
belief that the First World War changed the course of 20th century
history, and every subsequent major event -- the rise of Communism, Fascism, the
Great Depression, and World War II, the Cold War the Middle East and Balkan Crises
-- had its genesis in the Great War.
Our organization is an active, creative and sociable organization. We
have arranged for fly-overs of World War I aircraft; hosted veteran
Doughboys, Poilus and Tommies; relit the Unknown Soldier's eternal
flame at the Arc de Triomphe; held film festivals, sing-alongs and
poetry readings; and conducted group trips to military installations,
museums and militaria displays besides our journeys to the
battlefields of France and Flanders. Our members also love to join
together to enjoy fine wines, delightful cuisine and one another's
company.
If you have a wish to learn more about the events of 1914-1918 and to meet
other persons who share your focus, please consider enlisting in the
Great War Society. Upon becoming a member, you will receive our
quarterly issue of Relevance to which we encourage all
members to contribute papers. You will also receive a membership
directory which includes the interests of each member enabling you to communicate with other members with similar interests. If you are on-line, you will also receive regular email reports on both organizational happenings and new World War I material on the Internet.
We hope you will join us,
The Directors of the Great War Society
